Fundraising
With just an initial £25 donation, you can focus on fundraising!
You are set the challenging, but achievable fundraising target of £1.50 per mile for Land's End to John O'Groats (£1,530), £1.75 for the North Coast 500 (£965), £2 per mile for Lon Las Cymru (£520) and £2.50 for the Sea to Sea (£375) adventure.
Don't forget all overnight accommodation, support vehicles, volunteer route leaders, maps, team apparel and minor bike maintenance are all covered by your fundraising! You only need to cover travel to and from the trip and food during the ride.
Accommodation
This is a supported bike tour where roughing it is embraced.
In order to donate more of your hard earned fundraising, we stay at campsites, churches, community centres, town halls and the occasional university accommodation. One night in a hotel for the team would be enough money to build a ramp for someone with MS which is why our riders are willing to rough it where necessary.
You are always welcome to pay out-of-pocket for a hotel room even when the team has other accommodations lined up that evening, but require you to be self sufficient with getting you and your equipment too and from the hotel. If luxury is what you seek, there may be better options for you.
Support
Bike the UK for MS teams are working together to bike the United Kingdom and rid the world of MS.
You will be provided the resources, framework, and support to reach this goal. Your gear will be carried by support vehicles, your volunteer route leaders will be there to help you along the way, a mechanic will help you keep your bike rolling with minor repairs, water stops will be set up every 20-30 miles, nightly accommodations will be booked, but the pedaling is up to you!
What do I need to do?
Besides fundraising, there are a few other boxes to tick before the ride.
Training
You must have ridden at least 500 miles on the bike you plan to ride on, including back to back 60 mile rides and wet weather riding.
Camping Gear
Home away from home! Prepare with a trusty water proof tent, warm sleeping bag and cooking equipment. The last thing you want is to be cold and hungry before a long riding day.
Travel Plans
Arrange transport to the start and away from the finish of the adventure. Remember, there will be a mandatory team orientation the day before you start riding at 2pm for LEJOG and 7 30pm for NC500 & C2C. Don't forget to plan for travelling with your bike!
MS Group Meetups
Create a true sense of purpose to your ride!
On route, you'll have the privilege of meeting the amazing local MS support groups across the country. It is an opportunity to meet those that your hard earned fundraising will be supporting, learn more about what it's like to live with MS and develop a true sense of purpose for your ride!
Whether you have a connection to MS or not, these amazing events will give you the added strength you need to get through those rainy cold days! Every year they are the highlight for many alumni.
Safety
Your safety is our number one priority!
Our non-negotiables include wearing a helmet at all times while on your bike, having a rear flashing light at all times, no biking while intoxicated and you must stay on the designated route. We have few hard rules on the trips, but we won't be afraid to pull you up on safety issues.
Not ridden with others in a group? It's worth brushing up on the skills before the adventure to safely benefit from riding with others in tough conditions!
Worried about navigation?
Fear not! You will be following bespoke cycling maps specifically for your route. We have created and perfected them over the years based off rider feedback. All you’ll need is a simple bike computer that records your speed and distance to know when the turns are coming up!
Got a smart bike computer or use Strava? There are options to download the route GPX files or follow the route on your phone!
