Volunteer Route Leaders are part of the Bike the UK for MS team as much as the riders turning the pedals. They make the trips possible and get to travel to some of the best parts of the UK whilst having a blast and doing their bit for those living with MS. Sounds good, right?
“Your job is to help people reach goals that they never really thought that they could reach. And when they do reach them, that’s your reward and it’s almost better than doing it yourself” Joanna Goodhead – multiple time Bike the UK for MS Route Leader“
Why Route Lead with Bike the UK for MS?
Contribute to a great cause – 130,000 people in the UK are living with MS. Our trips support local MS Support Groups who provide crucial improvements to their members’ quality of life. Not only does the money raised make a huge difference but our teams, including the volunteer Route Leaders, meet these groups along their journey – a chance to learn a huge amount about MS and what it means for those living with it.
Get away from it all – a Scottish beach, an English moor or a Welsh mountain… perfect places for the soul. A moment can last a lifetime and the opportunity to stop and drink that moment in is worth a (fully laden) van’s weight in gold!
Meet a diverse group of new people – People, they are all very different, you know? Brought together for a common goal but from all walks of life and with their own personal tales, insights and contribution to the team. Our very own kaleidoscope of cycling butterflies!
Explore the UK or show off your back yard? – It is always a thrill to take a step, as Samwise did, into unknown lands and the UK has plenty of new surprises hidden in the far-flung nooks and crannies. Or maybe it is the opposite, you know where those hidden corners are and can’t wait to see them through new eyes again?
Talk bikes – Cyclists like to talk about bikes. Well, what better place to talk about bikes with other people who like to talk about bikes, than in a group of bikers, riding bikes?!
Who is a Bike the UK for MS route leader?
Positive vibes – someone is having a tough day on the bike, a volunteer Route Leader might just about be able to make them smile, despite the hills/rain/wind/potholes (delete as appropriate!).
A drive to make a difference – Driving the van is not the only way to contribute. Supporting the riders at rest stops and around camp ensures that they are able to complete their challenge. Driving the van on the best of the UK’s roads is fun too…
Share the story – Our teams need their tale telling and our route leaders are a huge part of capturing the journey so that supporters and fundraisers can follow the team along their adventure.
